I'm Worried: PCOS and Embryo Retrieval Results

Hey there, fellow warriors! I recently went through an embryo retrieval procedure while dealing with PCOS. I’m curious to know if anyone else in a similar situation managed to get a good number of embryos from their retrieval session. I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you may have to offer. Drop a comment and let’s chat!

For the lovely ladies in their forties

I had a total of 22 retrieved, 14 mature, and 10 fertilized eggs in my latest round of IVF. 4 embryos were normal, with 1 being segmental.
Two months later, at 42 years old, I had 17 retrieved, 10 mature, and 6 fertilized eggs. 3 of them were normal.
All of this happened within 2-3 months of my 43rd birthday and after my 3rd and 4th retrieval attempts. Prior to this, I had no success until changing doctors and protocols.

Out of the 17 eggs retrieved, 12 were deemed mature, 8 were successfully fertilized, and ultimately 6 were able to develop into 5-day blasts.

I experienced severe OHSS while stimming, so I triggered on day 9 due to high estrogen levels (38,000). Despite triggering early, I retrieved 12 mature eggs and ended up with 6 embryos. The goal was 10 eggs for quality over quantity, so I am pleased with my results.

Content warning: large number of embryos

At the age of 33, I had a total of 26 eggs retrieved, 26 eggs inseminated, 23 eggs fertilized, and 19 embryos frozen. I opted for pre-implantation genetic testing on 7 out of the 19 embryos, with 7 of them coming back euploid, while the remaining ones are untested.

They found a total of 15 embryos, with 12 being matured and 6 successfully reaching the blastocyst stage.

At the time of retrieval, 32 eggs were retrieved from a patient with PCOS. Out of these, 23 were retrieved, 18 were mature, 14 were fertilized, 12 reached the blastocyst stage, and 9 were euploids. Additionally, there was 1 low level mosaic, 1 high level mosaic, and 1 aneuploid embryo.

I retrieved 15 eggs, 9 of which were mature, 8 were fertilized, and 8 developed into embryos, with 4 being euploid.

Trigger warning: discussing embryos in storage

Hey there! I have PCOS and was able to retrieve a good number of embryos that made it to blastocyst stage. Although I experienced mild OHSS, my clinic helped me through it. The number of embryos usually decreases from retrieval to blastocyst, but as someone with PCOS, I was able to freeze a few. Very thankful for that!

I had 33 eggs retrieved, but due to difficulty reaching all my follicles, the number could have been higher. Of these, 27 were mature, 22 were fertilized, resulting in 8 day 6 blasts and 3 day 7 blasts, totaling 11 in all. We are currently awaiting test results for the day 6 blasts and keeping the day 7 blasts as backup.

Hello! I am 32 years old and had 20 eggs retrieved, with 10 being mature and 10 fertilized. Out of those, 8 developed into blasts - 5 were day 5 with excellent ratings, while 3 were day 6 with normal to poor quality. I decided not to do testing for various reasons. Best of luck with your upcoming egg retrieval, sending positive vibes your way!

Age is an important factor to consider in IVF. In my experience, at 38 years old with PCOS, I underwent two egg retrievals with minimal adverse effects from the hormones. The first retrieval yielded 19 oocytes, resulting in 3 euploid blasts. The second retrieval produced 20 oocytes, resulting in 2 euploid blasts. I am grateful for the relatively smooth process and successful outcomes.

I have PCOS and was anticipating a high egg count based on statistics. However, I only had 5 eggs retrieved, 4 fertilized, and 2 day 5 embryos. I am unsure why my numbers were lower than expected. IVF is confusing to me.

A total of 28 eggs resulted in 7 euploids after PGTA testing!

I was diagnosed with PCOS and underwent egg retrieval at the age of 36. The results were: 21 eggs retrieved, with over 16 mature, 16 fertilized, 9 developed into blasts, and 5 euploid + 1 mosaic. I did not experience OHSS but the process was not enjoyable. Recovery from the procedure was surprisingly easy for me.

I have a mild case of PCOS and went to the emergency room at 33 years old. The results were 48 eggs retrieved, 33 mature, 21-27 fertilized, 16 turned into blastocysts, and ended up with 11 euploid embryos and 1 mosaic embryo.

Trigger warning: Large number of embryos

I’m 29 years old and have had PCOS for a long time. I had my egg retrieval last Thursday. I retrieved 29 eggs, but 3 were not mature. They didn’t mention how many were fertilized, but in the end, I have 12 high quality embryos (AA or AB).

I can’t have a fresh transfer because I developed OHSS. I’m still recovering from it, so be cautious after your egg retrieval. I will have a frozen embryo transfer after my next period, likely at the beginning of next month

Wishing you the best of luck! Remember to stay hydrated, rest when possible, and avoid strenuous exercise.

Trigger warning: High initial count and OHSS experience.

I have PCOS and underwent egg retrieval at the age of 32. Out of 42 eggs retrieved, 36 were deemed mature, 26 were successfully fertilized, resulting in 12 blastocysts and 9 euploids.

While everything seemed fine initially, I experienced moderate OHSS after the retrieval procedure. The following four days were extremely difficult for me - I couldn’t eat anything for two days and felt very fatigued.

I recommend taking colace during the week of retrieval to prevent constipation. I was so constipated that any food I tried to eat would make me vomit.

I retrieved 31 eggs, of which 30 were mature, 28 were fertilized using ICSI, and 16 developed into blasts. Out of the 8 sent for testing, 4 were normal, 1 was inconclusive, and 3 were abnormal. I was stimulated for 8 days and took a 3-day course of cetrotide after the egg retrieval. By day 7 post ER, I felt back to normal. Best of luck!

I underwent two rounds of egg retrieval at age 34. The results differed between the two, but here are the total numbers: 56 eggs retrieved, 36 mature, 32 fertilized, 20 sent for testing, 9 euploid and 2 indeterminate frozen. Only experienced mild OHSS during the first round.
