I wanted to share my experience with vaping as a tool to help me quit smoking. I know it’s a controversial topic, but I found that vaping gradually reduced my cravings for cigarettes. It wasn’t easy at first, and I still face challenges, but I’m on the right track. Have any of you used vaping as a way to quit smoking? I’d love to hear your stories and insights. Let’s support each other on this journey to a healthier lifestyle!
If this is your first consultation, expect it to take 2-3 months before you reach the egg retrieval stage, so don’t worry. IVF timelines are typically longer than anticipated.
I have an appointment at a private clinic tomorrow. They are usually more accommodating because you are paying for the services, compared to NHS where they have the right to refuse treatment. The timeline for starting stims is typically around 4 weeks after the consultation, with egg retrieval about 6 weeks after. To increase chances of success, it might be beneficial to start taking CoQ10 now and delay stims for a few months. They can provide further guidance. Vaping may be seen as not as harmful as smoking due to lack of smoke inhalation, but there are still chemicals and nicotine present. This applies to male partners who smoke or vape as well.
Just for reference, I had my consultations in mid-August and will begin stims in around two weeks, with retrieval scheduled for the first week of October. It’s the quickest turnaround I could have hoped for.
The Guardian recently published an article discussing a study that found a link between vaping and decreased levels of the AMH hormone. Check it out here: Women should give up vaping if they want to get pregnant, study suggests | Vaping | The Guardian.
I used to vape a lot before starting stimulation, but I stopped one week prior. Despite being young (30) with a low BMI and no known fertility issues, my results were poor in terms of euploidy. I retrieved a large number of eggs, but the quality was lacking. While I can’t say for sure if vaping was the cause, I suspect it may have played a role. My doctor mentioned that vaping is more of a concern during the transfer phase. Each person is different, so there are only rough guidelines for what is considered good or bad.
The timeline can vary, but you will likely be fine. Our initial consultation was in January and we didn’t have our emergency room until April. The process can be slow in reaching milestones.
