Hey everyone, I recently found out that I have balanced translocation through genetic testing, and it has left me with a lot of questions and uncertainties about what this means for me moving forward. I’m reaching out to hear from others who may have had a similar experience or have knowledge about this condition. I would appreciate any insights, advice, or information on the options available for individuals with balanced translocations. Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts and experiences.
My husband has a balanced translocation, but luckily I have a good AMH and don’t have the same concerns about egg numbers. How old are you? If you have time on your side, a translocation can be overcome. We were told it would be challenging to get euploid embryos with only a 1/6 chance. Our first retrieval produced 3 euploids out of 10 and the second retrieval only 1 out of 3, with a low level mosaic as well. It might be worth considering an egg retrieval to see how your numbers turn out. Best of luck to you! ![]()
Hello! I recently discovered that I have a balanced translocation after undergoing 4 egg retrievals. I have plenty to discuss and am willing to share any information! It’s late so I’m off to bed, but wanted to say hello before I forget to message you back. Feel free to choose whichever option you prefer for our egg use, as I would be content either way. Have a good night!
I recently discovered that I am a carrier for BT and will be beginning the IVF journey. My AMH is .84, slightly higher, but I don’t believe it will make a significant impact. My doctor and I are prepared for multiple cycles, aiming for 2-3 euploid embryos. Despite the challenges, we are optimistic about the process. The genetic counselor mentioned successful outcomes, even for older women, so I am willing to give it a try!
My husband has a diagnosis of BT and azoospermia. Even without sperm production issues, we would have considered using donor sperm due to the low chances of creating a euploid embryo with a BT. With limited funds for IVF and no insurance coverage, we opted for donor sperm without attempting surgical sperm extraction first. If you have insurance, you could try with your own eggs first or consider using a donor.
