To retrieve or not to retrieve? That is the question

Hey all,
I’m feeling torn right now about whether to wait or proceed with egg retrieval. On one hand, I have been preparing for this moment for a while now and I know the process quite well. On the other hand, there are so many variables at play, and the uncertainty is overwhelming.
I’d love to hear from others who may have been in a similar situation. Did you decide to wait it out a bit longer, or did you take the leap and go for retrieval? What factors helped you make your decision? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I’m not an expert, but I would suggest moving forward. Despite having low count and immotile sperm issues, there are plenty of sperm to choose from in a sample. With ICSI, we had a successful first transfer and my wife is now 8 months pregnant.

I decided to opt for IVF to take control of my fertility journey and avoid potential heartbreak if I can afford it. I recently underwent my first egg retrieval due to male factor infertility and skipped IUI. Despite only trying for 9 months, my husband’s sperm parameters were concerning. Despite initial frustrations, I am staying positive and hopeful for success with IVF. I am now in the process of waiting for embryo transfer and expect to have frozen embryos for future use after having our first child. I was also surprised to learn that there is a month between egg retrieval and embryo transfer in a frozen embryo transfer cycle. This means that my transfer will coincide with the one-year mark of trying to conceive.

I suggest including zymot in the ICSI procedure. My clinic charged approximately $200 for this extra step, but I believe it was beneficial in selecting the healthiest sperm for successful fertilization.
