Struggling with Travel *Illness During Pregnancy

Hey everyone, I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed and stressed recently. I’m currently pregnant and had to deal with some *illness while traveling. It’s been a rough journey, and I could really use some support and advice from others who may have gone through something similar. If anyone has any tips or stories to share, I’d appreciate it more than you can imagine. Just feeling a bit lost and in need of some guidance. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Just wanted to let you know that vaccines typically take around 14 days to become effective due to the immune response they require. However, considering Zika can be sexually transmitted for months after infection, that might be a bigger concern than Covid or flu. Have you discussed this with your doctor? Congratulations on your positive test!

I refrained from getting a Covid booster in my first trimester due to experiencing a fever with every dose. My OB advised waiting until my second trimester before getting the booster, and I followed this recommendation. I’m relieved I waited because I ended up with a 103-degree fever for 24 hours post-booster.

I recently traveled by plane to Japan, a 10-hour journey, while being 6 to 8 weeks pregnant. I am currently in my 7th week with no issues so far. I am taking it easy, staying hydrated, and enjoying trying Japanese snacks. Despite missing out on some activities, I am feeling good overall. My OBGYN advised me on precautions to take during the flight, including using hand sanitiser and taking blood thinners.

I flew to California at 5.5 weeks pregnant and am currently road tripping back at nearly 7 weeks. My clinic approved of the trip as my beta levels were high enough and they were not worried about ectopic pregnancy. Everything has been going smoothly so far with no complications or bleeding, just hoping for continued baby growth!

I traveled from LA to Puerto Vallarta last month at 5 weeks pregnant and it was okay. The flight was uncomfortable due to soreness from the PIO shot, but overall the trip was fine. We only stayed for 5 days instead of the planned 2 weeks.

Just a heads up, vaccines usually take about 14 days to become effective because they need to trigger an immune response.

I wouldn’t be too worried about Covid and flu, but Zika is a concern. Have you talked to your doctor or researched it? It can be transmitted through mosquitoes and sexually for months after infection, so if your partner is going on the trip, they could infect you later in your pregnancy.

Congratulations on your positive test!

I chose not to get a Covid booster during my first trimester due to experiencing a fever with every booster shot. Following my OB’s advice, I waited until my second trimester to get the shot. I’m grateful I waited because I had a 103-degree fever for a full day after receiving the booster.

I traveled to Japan via plane for ten hours at 6 to 8 weeks pregnant. Currently in week 7 of pregnancy with no issues so far. Staying hydrated, taking it easy, feeling good but needing to eat every few hours to avoid feeling sick. Trying Japanese snacks. Had a flu shot and use hand sanitizer. Being a teacher helps my immune system. Sad to miss out on sushi/skiing/onsens but not too bothered. OBGYN had no concerns about travel, just advised precautions during flight.

I flew to California at 5.5 weeks pregnant and am now road tripping back at almost 7 weeks. My clinic approved it due to high beta levels and no concerns about tubal issues. Everything has been smooth so far, no bleeding or complications, just hoping the baby is still developing properly!
