Struggling with Progesterone Timing Post-IVF Egg Retrieval

After my recent IVF egg retrieval, I’ve been feeling overwhelmed about when exactly to start progesterone for a fresh embryo transfer. I’ve done some research, but I’d love to hear from those who have gone through a similar experience. When did you start your progesterone post-retrieval? Did the timing impact your transfer success? Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Progesterone support may not be crucial in fresh transfer cycles since your body naturally produces its own progesterone. It is typically provided to patients as a precautionary measure, although it is not essential (similar to natural conception).

I had a similar experience where my doctor advised me to start the medication the night before my transfer. At first, I thought my period was starting when I started spotting. Thankfully, everything went smoothly and I am now 25 weeks pregnant.

A randomized control study found that beginning the beta HCG shot within -1 to 4 days after retrieval had a consistent effect on maintaining the corpus luteum’s production of endogenous progesterone, as the corpus luteum is tricked into thinking you are pregnant.

I recall being unsure about when to start progesterone as well. In my experience with IVF, I began taking it a few days after retrieval to align with the embryo stage. Trust in your medical team to guide you through this process.
