Hey everyone, I’ve recently gone through multiple miscarriages and it has been incredibly tough. I feel like I’m on an emotional rollercoaster. Can anyone else who has been through this share their experiences and offer any advice or support? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
I had a termination for medical reasons 12 weeks ago in mid September and my periods have not returned yet, which can be common with my PCOS. The doctor prescribed birth control to induce a withdrawal bleed before starting stims, but it did not occur. I just had my egg retrieval recently. Our bodies can recover quickly if there are no complications. My gynecologist used to advise waiting for the first period after miscarriages, but also said it’s safe to try to conceive right away. It may be helpful to discuss this with your reproductive endocrinologist.
My doctor advised me to wait until I had my period before trying to conceive. He monitored my follicles to ensure ovulation and checked my uterine lining. I became pregnant in the following cycle, although I unfortunately had to terminate for medical reasons. When you feel mentally prepared, you can consider trying again.
Consider doing a DNA fragmentation test even if the semen analysis is normal when experiencing multiple miscarriages. Sperm DNA fragmentation can occur even with normal semen results, as was the case with my husband. In addition to the test, consider getting karyotypes and genetic disease testing done. Regular PGT testing only checks for aneuploidy, so special tests may be needed. Make sure to also have a full hormone panel, full RPL panel including clotting and autoimmune tests, and an HSG or SIS. If no issues are found, consider a uterine biopsy and immunology testing.
I underwent a 12 week TFMR in mid September and haven’t had my period yet due to PCOS. The doctor prescribed birth control before starting stims for egg retrieval, but my withdrawal bleed never came. Despite this, I had the retrieval a few days ago. It’s amazing how quickly our bodies can recover without complications. After previous miscarriages, my gynae advised waiting for my first period before trying again, but getting pregnant right away is also an option. Be sure to discuss this with your RE.
I would only consider following recommendations from a naturopath if my RE approved of the plan.
My condolences for your losses. I suggest considering the DNA fragmentation test for your husband and requesting an RPL panel for yourself. It is important to identify any potential underlying issues before trying again.
