Struggling with IVF After Husband's Vasectomy

My husband had a vasectomy years ago, and now we’re navigating the journey of IVF. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions and challenges. Can anyone share their experiences or advice? Feeling a bit lost and could use some support right now. Thank you.

In the USA, we had to pay $900 out of pocket for a TESE procedure to extract sperm, along with $500 for anesthesia, as none of it was covered by insurance. The sperm were frozen for later use in IVF, as ICSI was necessary due to immaturity. At the age of 39 and 3 months, we were able to create 3 euploid embryos.

I suggest considering going abroad for fertility treatment in countries like Spain, Czech Republic, Turkey, or Greece, rather than the UK. It’s advisable to bank embryos and potentially conduct PGT-A testing, as this can help alleviate pressure and allow for transfers at the right time. I personally spent a lot on treatment in the UK and faced long waiting times between procedures. I wish someone had advised me to explore options abroad years ago. Despite setbacks, such as early losses and a late-term miscarriage, I am now pursuing treatment abroad to secure euploid embryos for future transfers. While having banked embryos is not a guarantee, it does increase the chances of successful outcomes over time. My husband overcame cancer and fertility issues, providing fresh sperm samples for ICSI.

I experienced a similar situation without the cancer & a costly vasectomy reversal that ultimately failed. This led us to a PESA procedure costing 5k, followed by a full round of IVF totaling 15k plus medication expenses. In Canada, this process can be quite pricey. If given the chance, I would recommend going straight to a PESA or TESE instead of a reversal.

If you are paying privately, you can directly visit your preferred fertility clinic in the UK. Best wishes for your journey!

It is recommended to consider a vasectomy reversal or sperm extraction. Consulting a reproductive urologist would be beneficial to determine the best option. To optimize results, coordinating the extraction with your egg retrieval is advised to prevent potential damage to the sperm during the thawing process.

My husband had infertility issues and underwent a mapping procedure to locate sperm in his testes. Only one sperm was found to be working, so a surgical extraction was done. Our consultant recommended a consultation to discuss possibilities and probabilities. We had the procedures done by Dr Jonathan Ramsay in Harley Street and the Lister Hospital, with a total cost of around 18k. Payment options and deals are available, especially for younger individuals with no known fertility issues. Good luck to you!
