Struggling to Save for My First IVF ER - Here's What Helped

Hey all,
Just wanted to share a quick post about some things I found that helped me save a bit of money leading up to my first IVF egg retrieval.

  1. Medication Discounts: Check for any programs offered by medication companies which provide discounts or financial assistance for fertility drugs. Some pharmaceutical companies have financial support programs that can be a significant help.
  2. Generic Medication: When possible, ask your doctor if it’s okay to use generic versions of the prescribed medications. They can be more affordable and save you some money without compromising quality.
  3. Look for Coupons: Keep an eye out for coupons or rebates on fertility

This week I learned that the Lupron trigger kit and the 15-day kit both contain the exact same quantity of medication, 280 units. The only difference is that the trigger kit comes with 14 syringes and alcohol pads, while the 15-day kit comes with 2 large syringes. Luckily, I was able to purchase the trigger kit at a lower price, even though my clinic originally prescribed the 15-day kit. I will be taking 10 units per day for 21 days, so one vial will be more than enough. The price difference between the trigger kit and the 15-day kit is $350, even though they contain the exact same medication. Absolutely wild!
