Sharing My Journey: The Emotional Decision Between Live Births and Embryo Count

Hey all! I’ve been wrestling with a big decision lately and could really use some advice and insight. It’s so hard to choose between aiming for more live births or focusing on maximizing the number of embryos. What factors do you think are most important to consider in this dilemma? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Let’s chat!

He was my everything. I am grateful daily.

I had 5 normal embryos implanted, but only one resulted in a successful pregnancy despite the four miscarriages.

There were 11 embryos, but only one resulted in a live birth.

I came here seeking answers as well! At the age of 38, I underwent 4 embryo transfers, resulting in 1 untested and 2 euploid embryos. The untested embryo led to a healthy baby being born, and now I am getting ready to transfer one of the euploid embryos.

I had 2 embryos from the first round, but only 1 was euploid. I will be induced in two weeks at 38 weeks due to gestational hypertension.

Two euploids were transferred separately resulting in one pregnancy. The first frozen embryo transfer (FET) was unsuccessful despite being fully medicated. The second embryo was implanted using a modified natural cycle and was successful. The pregnancy is currently at 30 weeks.

From 2 retrievals at 41, 9 euploid embryos were produced (3 from the first retrieval and 6 from the second), resulting in 1 live birth with 8 embryos remaining.

I had two untested embryos that resulted in my first child, and now I have six untested embryos that led to my second pregnancy. The range of outcomes from person to person must be even greater!

Trigger Warning: stillbirth

Out of the six untested embryos we had, two were twins from two embryos - one was stillborn and the other is a living child. We also experienced one ectopic pregnancy and two embryos that failed to implant. We have one remaining embryo stored in the freezer, which I hope to have an embryo transfer with soon, and hopefully it will be our last.

I recently transferred two untested, highly graded embryos but unfortunately experienced two unsuccessful pregnancies. Hoping for better luck with my recent double transfer two days ago!

One of the euploid embryos I tested resulted in my 23-week pregnancy. I have four remaining euploid embryos frozen. I am incredibly lucky and thankful.

Out of the 9 embryos, 4 have been utilized for a single little boy.

During my first round, I had four embryos, but unfortunately one did not survive the thaw. At 32 years old, I had a successful second transfer that resulted in a now 3-year-old child. For the second round at age 35, I had three embryos, and tomorrow I will be 37 weeks pregnant with the third child. Based on average statistics, I will have two live births out of six untested transfers.

I am 34 years old now and underwent embryo transfer at 33. Initially, we had four embryos and unfortunately miscarried after the first untested transfer. After testing the remaining embryos, we found they were euploid. The second embryo transfer was successful, and our current pregnancy is due in October. We are hopeful to have one more live birth with these last embryos, although we are still waiting for our current pregnancy to come to term.

Six untested embryos were retrieved from one egg retrieval. We successfully transferred a 4AA embryo resulting in a live birth. I am currently pregnant at 11 weeks with our second embryo transfer, a 3AA that was untested. We are extremely grateful for the successes and luck we have experienced so far.

In my first egg retrieval at age 33 with an AMH of 4.8, I received 3 untested embryos from 22 eggs resulting in one live birth after our second FET. My second retrieval at age 36 with an AMH of 2.8 yielded 6 PGT-A normal euploid embryos from 14 eggs. After 5 total FETs, including 3 untested and 2 tested embryos, we have one live birth and are now 32 weeks along with our second FET.

We were fortunate to have 3 embryos from 2 retrievals, with 1 miscarriage, 1 aneuploid, and now have a 12 month old baby boy. We feel very lucky.

I had 2 retrievals at age 35, resulting in 7 tested embryos - including 1 mosaic. The first transfer was unsuccessful, but the second gave me my son, now 16 months old. I am currently pregnant with my third transfer. Each time, I have expected a 50/50 chance. If this pregnancy is successful and we have another, I am hopeful we can try for a third with our remaining embryos in the future.

The first fresh transfer was successful for me, and I currently have one untested frozen embryo from that cycle as well as one tested embryo from a second cycle. While I didn’t have many blasts (only 2 from the first cycle and 1 from the second), I am hoping for quality over quantity.
