Hey everyone, just heard about SB 729 here in California! Starting July 1, 2025, employers will be required to cover IVF. As someone who’s been on the fertility journey, I’m excited about this news. It’s a step towards making fertility treatments more accessible and affordable for all. How do you feel about this new mandate? Share your thoughts!"
I consulted with a friend who works in insurance for information on how coverage might work. For instance, can insurance and employers dictate that insurance covers 20% of expenses, while the patient is responsible for 80%? His response was uncertain. I am hesitant because I believe insurance companies manipulate the law to benefit their own profits. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
Please consider that the availability of this depends on when your company’s benefits renew. For instance, if your company renews benefits on 1/1/26, this will be available for mandated companies at that time. This does not apply to many employers as large companies with over 100 employees often choose to self-insure, making them exempt. Small employers with less than 100 employees are also excluded. Although it is a positive move, more large companies may opt for self-funding in order to lower costs in the future.
This change will not be implemented for state employees until the summer of 2026 due to budget constraints. If you are a federal employee in California, this does not apply to you. Sorry. ![]()
I am a California resident without coverage and this is incredible!!! I had heard about it but it doesn’t feel real until it actually happens. I’m so happy, I might cry!
Wow, that is truly impressive!
This bill is not likely to be passed until January at the earliest. Gavin has falsely raised hopes in many communities, but none of this will take effect for years. The situation is upsetting and a mockery to him. This bill is nonsense and I should never have gotten my hopes up.
