Seeking Advice: Identical Twin Connection

I’ve always been fascinated by the unique bond that exists between identical twins. As an identical twin myself, I find it both comforting and intriguing to share this inexplicable connection with my sibling. However, lately, I’ve been pondering a question that I can’t seem to shake off - do identical twins possess a sixth sense that allows them to understand each other on a deeper level?

I’m unsure of the answer, but maybe they are referring to a timeframe of 72 hours to 4-8 days after implantation rather than after fertilization?

I saw a post on this subreddit showing a photo of a pre-transfer embryo splitting into identical twins. While rare, it is possible.

As an ultrasound tech, I recently asked one of my MFMs about the occurrence of twinning after a single day 5 embryo transfer that resulted in di/di twins. The MFM explained that there is limited understanding of when or why twinning occurs. The “evidence” regarding the timing of the split causing the type of twins is mostly anecdotal. He mentioned making med students look into the research every year to practice their research techniques and learn not to trust all common medical knowledge.

That’s a fascinating question. My initial FET resulted in fraternal twins in separate sacs after the transfer, even though it began as a single day 6 4BB embryo. Unfortunately, one stopped growing around 8 weeks. I am unsure if the late split had an effect.

I have come across a video of an embryo splitting in an IVF lab multiple times on social media accounts run by embryologists who are influencers.

It is possible to occasionally observe two inner cell masses within a single blastocyst!
