I’ve been doing some research about clinics in the US that provide twilight sedation for certain procedures. Can anyone share their experiences or recommendations if they have undergone a procedure with this type of sedation? I’m particularly interested in hearing about clinics that offer this option and what the process was like. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
The lighting in all of my emergency rooms was dim.
Twilight sedation and IV sedation are the same thing. In all of my egg retrievals in the Midwest USA, IV sedation was used. Shady Grove’s website mentions IV sedation in the egg retrieval section, so I don’t understand why you believe you will be fully sedated. You will be breathing on your own and conscious during the procedure, but you will not remember or feel anything. Unlike full sedation, you will not be intubated.
I recently underwent an egg retrieval procedure at Shady Grove in Denver, and I found the sedation process to be very convenient. The anesthesiologist was excellent and helped me feel relaxed throughout. Their primary responsibility was to monitor my vitals to ensure my safety during the procedure. I recovered quickly and left feeling content. In contrast, I have had two surgeries with deeper sedation, resulting in a longer recovery time, but overall manageable.
My sedation was supposed to be twilight, but I was completely unconscious. Others I’ve spoken to received propofol. I received an additional dose of fentanyl when I woke up in discomfort.
CNY utilizes twilight sedation for procedures.
My first egg retrieval at Shady Grove was done on Friday, using twilight sedation.
I have never heard of anyone being sedated and intubated for an emergency room visit before.
I am not familiar with deep sedation or intubation being required for the procedure as it is usually brief. During all three of mine, I experienced moderate sedation where I was still able to breathe on my own but have no recollection of the procedure.
Propofol induces a twilight state, not full anesthesia, which may cause confusion among patients who do not remember their procedure.
Can you please tell me your location? Typically, ER procedures do not involve sedation in most areas.
I have undergone two ear procedures at different clinics, both performed with twilight sedation.
Certain hospital clinics offer spinal anesthesia for procedures like egg retrieval. I personally had this method done twice, and for me, it wasn’t very effective as I still felt a lot of discomfort and the process took longer due to the large number of eggs. However, this may not be the case for everyone as it didn’t work for me, similarly to epidurals. It’s worth considering if you prefer not to be sedated.
My grandmother underwent three ER procedures, one under general anesthesia, another under twilight sedation, and the last one with no sedation at all. She claimed it was not painful and shared her experience with me. It seems that it is possible to undergo these procedures without feeling much pain. This occurred 30 years ago.
At my clinic, Shady Grove Houston, we offer twilight sedation for emergency room procedures.
I found these comments to be very fascinating. During my ER visit and hysteroscopy, I was under an LMA for airway and given propofol/fentanyl, which was the default choice. Despite not needing significant pain relief, I had half of my wisdom teeth removed under local anesthesia. I have a strong fear of anesthesia, so I was not thrilled about it, but ultimately I am grateful to be alive and well, trusting my doctors to do what was necessary for a successful procedure.
I believe that most, if not all, clinics in the US offer twilight sedation for egg retrievals as the standard practice.
I DEEPLY understand the desire to mess with them, but speaking as someone mid-IVF who also did clinic defense for years (standing outside clinics to make sure people seeking care were able to safely access the building, sometimes by physically walking them in and being a shield between them and anti-choice protesters), I strongly advise against messing with them. They want a reaction, they don’t care what the reaction is, they’re there to scare people and interrupt care, the only thing that actually annoys them is being incredibly neutral and totally ignoring them. Trust me, I know how hard that is, I’ve had these people scream directly in my face! But I promise you that if you react to them, all you’re doing is proving that their presence has negatively impacted your day, and that’s exactly what they want. There’s nothing you can say to make them stop, I’ve literally seen it all! Don’t feed the trolls
Are they protesting IVF? I might ask them to write down their credit card numbers so they can pay the tens of thousands of dollars for alternative care or adoption fees. See who will literally put their money where their mouth is. Act shocked if they say they can’t or won’t pay. Tell them next week they can bring you cash in a bag
They’re cultists, and they want a reaction from you. But I truly applaud your willingness to mess with them, I wish you the absolute best of luck and I hope it helps. If your intent is to peel away anyone from their group or shake their faith, maybe watch some of the videos of interviews from ex-abortion protesters and see what convinced them to leave their cults?
Here’s a thread with some ideas though: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskFeminists/comments/1axupdl/how_do_we_defend_ourselves_from_harassment_at/
