Regretting Not Using Stool Softeners Before Egg Retrieval

Hey all, seeking some advice here. I recently had my egg retrieval procedure and now I’m regretting not taking stool softeners beforehand. I’ve been experiencing some discomfort during bowel movements post-retrieval. Any tips or experiences you can share on this topic would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

After the retrieval, I would recommend starting a softener as it will still be beneficial at that point.

I have the opposite problem and am incredibly regular. After my egg retrieval, I didn’t have a bowel movement for a week. I had to use a dulcolax suppository to get things moving again. It took a month for me to return to normal. Good luck!

After my visit to the ER, I didn’t experience any constipation. I drank plenty of water, had some prunes, and we ordered Chinese takeout for dinner. The next day, I had a bowel movement in the afternoon.

I had diarrhea after taking miralax the day before my retrieval. It might be preferable to constipation, right? Perhaps you could take another dose tomorrow if you’re concerned. I believe it’s the anesthesia that triggers it, so having a little before or after the retrieval should be okay.

I completed two cycles and need to start a third one. I experienced severe constipation for three days after the procedures. This plan seems like a good solution.

I didn’t experience any problems with my stool or constipation, so it’s not guaranteed that you will encounter similar issues. I did feel some discomfort while peeing for a couple of days, but there wasn’t much that could be done about it.

Anesthesia, not the ER, is the main culprit for causing constipation. The medications, including opioids, administered during surgery are known to lead to constipation. It’s common to experience constipation after undergoing surgery and being under anesthesia. Although I didn’t use stool softeners, my constipation was manageable. However, outcomes may vary for others.

I didn’t experience constipation in either of my ERs. It could be due to the fewer follicles/eggs retrieved.

I didn’t need any stimulants, my morning coffee worked well enough for me! Thankfully, it wasn’t a problem.

I consumed additional water and Gatorade, and I decided to order takeout containing cabbage because it is beneficial for constipation.
