Recovery After Egg Retrieval: My Experience and Tips

Just went through egg retrieval and boy, what a journey it has been! The procedure itself was not as bad as I imagined, but the recovery definitely caught me off guard. I wanted to share my experience and also hear from others who’ve been through this. How was your recovery after egg retrieval? Any tips on managing the discomfort and speeding up the process? Let’s support each other through this phase!

In general, things typically return to normal after your period following egg retrieval. Until then, I consider it a period of active recovery. Personally, I experienced painful and delayed ovulation in the two cycles after egg retrieval, so some side effects may persist.

I also had my retrieval last Wednesday and experienced similar feelings. The day of and the day after didn’t feel too bad, but I was more bothered by the nausea from anesthesia. However, from Friday to Sunday, I felt a lot of pain and bloating. I hope your symptoms improve and you feel better soon!

My experience with the first ER was easy, with only minor discomfort. During the second ER, I felt more bloated and had a very bad mood afterwards. Luckily, my post-IVF bleeding started on day 6 both times and my body returned to normal.

My bloating quickly increased and decreased within the first few days, and it took about a week to return to my usual weight and comfort level. However, with less than 15 eggs retrieved each time, I believe it can be even more difficult for women with a higher number of eggs retrieved.
