Hey everyone, just wanted to share my experience with having a salpingectomy recently. The recovery time, pain level, and overall journey have been quite a journey for me. I’m curious to hear about your own experiences with this procedure. Please feel free to share your story!
I underwent a salpingectomy due to an ectopic pregnancy, which was a different situation from my previous ectopic pregnancy. The surgery went smoothly and I opted to have my fallopian tube removed. Recovery was a bit challenging at first but improved day by day. Overall, the experience was much easier compared to other reproductive health issues I have faced. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. ![]()
The recovery was fast and simple. I experienced shoulder pain from the gas for the first few days, but I was able to stop taking strong pain medication in just a couple of days. Within a week, I felt completely physically recovered with no visible scars remaining from the laparoscopic procedure.
I took a total of 7 days off to fully recover from the operation. I used ibuprofen, paracetamol, and heat packs to manage the pain. The first three days were the most difficult, but I gradually improved. I had to stay in the hospital for 2 nights due to urinary retention, but I was able to go home after the catheter was removed. It’s important to have soft bowel movements before surgery to avoid constipation from painkillers. Consider taking psyllium husk or macrogel daily.
I underwent a double removal procedure and spent the night in the hospital. It took about a week before I felt comfortable sitting again. The surgery in NZ was done using keyhole technique and the scars healed quickly, but the rest of the operation was painful and took some time to recover from. I also experienced ovarian pain for a year after each ovulation due to adhesions to my pelvic wall, which was unexpected. However, the pain and recovery were worth it as I was in more pain before with a blocked tube. I recently completed IVF and am now 5 weeks pregnant
.
I underwent a unilateral salpingectomy, my very first surgery. Although I was nervous, the pain was manageable and the procedure went smoothly. I felt fatigued and experienced some pain in the days following, but with ibuprofen and Tylenol, I was able to stay comfortable. I took a few days off work after the surgery, but was able to return shortly after. The gas pain was the most difficult part, lasting about a week. However, within 10 days, I was feeling back to normal and even resumed my exercise routine. I did experience a delayed allergic reaction to the dissolving stitches, causing a rash, but overall, I’m healing well despite noticeable scars. Good luck to anyone undergoing a similar procedure!
My experience included two laparoscopic surgeries for endometriosis, and while overall not too bad, the recovery was challenging. The small incisions were taped over and started to knot together in 3 days. It was difficult to use my lower abs, bend, or twist depending on the incision size/placement, so I moved carefully for a few days. Sitting was the most challenging, while walking, standing, and showering were okay. I went back to work after a week, taking extra breaks and working from home in loose clothing. Most of my pain management focused on excision rather than internal pain, but I did have some cramps or aches the second time. I made sure to manage constipation properly after ending up in the ER due to severe pain. The doctor recommended taking 2 colace with every prescription painkiller, not just 2 a day as the bottle suggests.
I underwent elective bilateral salpingectomy before IVF a few years ago and the surgery and recovery were surprisingly easy. I only needed to take off work for the day of surgery plus two days after and felt fine. Compared to getting wisdom teeth removed, the salpingectomy recovery was much smoother. Best of luck to you!
I recently took a few days off work due to shoulder pain post-surgery. The doctor warned me ahead of time that the pain was likely due to anesthesia. For the first couple of days, I was mostly just moving between the bed and couch. The bleeding was heavy immediately after surgery, similar to a period, and lasted about a week. My husband had to help me get dressed and change pads. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel much pain in the lower abdomen, but the shoulder and chest area were quite uncomfortable. The incisions and scars are small, and I only occasionally needed over-the-counter pain medication. Although the doctor prescribed stronger pain meds, I didn’t take many as the pain was manageable, except for the shoulder discomfort.
