Just had my ultrasound, and they found 8 follicles! I’m feeling a mix of excitement and nerves right now. It’s my first time dealing with this many, and I can’t help but wonder what it means for my fertility journey. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did it turn out for you? Any advice or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I had 8 follicles and was discouraged to cancel, but I decided to proceed and am thrilled with my results. See details below: 10 retrieved, 10 mature, 10 fertilized, and 4 embryos produced. I also experienced success.
It may seem like having more follicles and eggs is ideal, but having a high AMH can actually increase the risk of producing too many tiny follicles if stims are too high. This can result in only a few dominant follicles, affecting quality and potentially leading to the majority of eggs being immature and unfertilizable. It’s important to consider this when aiming for a high quantity of eggs.
Hello, we are like twins except that I just had my day 9 scan and only have 8 large follicles on the right, 2 small on the right, and 2 moderate ones on the left. My doctor isn’t concerned and thinks we could still have a good number. I was disappointed since this is my second cycle. In my first cycle in June, I had a total of 14 follicles but only 6 were collected due to difficulty reaching my right ovary. I ended up with 3 poor blastocysts, and the one transferred failed to implant. We have male factor infertility, so this time we are using Zymot and hoping for better results. I forgot to mention that I used 150 units of FSH previously, but this time I am on 175 units of Bemfola. I will be 35 in January and so far have not had any issues on my side. I pray that we have a good number of embryos.
I totally understand the disappointment when you don’t see as many follicles as expected. Remember, additional follicles may appear in the last days of stimulation. My doctor has even extended stimulation by a day or two in the past because she believed more follicles were developing, and she was right! During egg retrieval, the doctors can manipulate your ovaries externally and capture views more effectively while you are sedated. It’s not a guarantee, but in my experience, this has led to more eggs being retrieved than initially seen on ultrasound. Wishing you the best of luck!
I hope recovery is going well for you! Any news back on the report?
