Hey everyone, I’m currently going through IVF and dealing with both Menopur and PIO injections.
I have to say, the pain levels are quite different for each one! Menopur stings like a bee, but the PIO injections feel like a whole different ball game. How have your experiences been with these injections, and how do you manage the discomfort? Would love to hear your thoughts and tips!
I prefer using Menopur because of the smaller needle size, which is why I find the larger needle used for PIO intimidating and sometimes makes me feel nauseous during injections.
I absolutely loathe Lovenox the most. I have discovered that letting Menopur sit for 10 minutes before injecting it greatly reduces the stinging. For PIO, I warm the loaded syringe under my armpit and use a heating pad on my butt, which my husband helps with thankfully. After this routine, I lay down on the couch and most days, I do not feel much pain.

To be honest, I probably dislike Lovenox the most. I discovered that if you mix Menopur and let it sit for 10 minutes, there is minimal stinging. As for PIO, warm your buttocks with a heating pad and the loaded syringe under your armpit for the same amount of time. Luckily, my husband administers my PIO, and I usually lay down on the couch after following the above routine, resulting in minimal to no pain most days.
To minimize discomfort, apply a generous amount of numbing cream under a Band-Aid and leave it on for 1.5 hours before administering Menopur. You will barely feel the injection!
I appreciate that the PIO doesn’t cause burning during injection, but the lumps and soreness in the following days are incredibly painful for me. Week 4 of PIO has resulted in large knots on both sides of my butt, making it challenging to find new injection sites.
Absolutely! No question about it. However, I’m only on day 6 of PIO and I can already see my first bruise forming.
