Finding My Peace: Coping Through Stimulation and Retrieval

I recently went through the stimulation and retrieval process, and let me tell you, it was a rollercoaster of emotions. The constant worry and anticipation can really take a toll on your mental health, right?
Besides just endlessly scrolling through Reddit (we’ve all been there!), I found a few things that really helped me stay sane during this time. One thing that worked wonders for me was practicing mindfulness and meditation. Taking a few minutes each day to center myself and focus on the present moment really helped alleviate my anxiety.
Another lifesaver for me was talking to a close friend or family member about how I was feeling. Sometimes, just sharing your thoughts and worries with someone

We decided to watch a comedy series and saved some episodes for later.

I have found that engaging in activities such as coloring books, mystery/thriller books, removing social media from my phone, watching Vanderpump Rules from season 1, and going on walks with my husband and dog after work has been incredibly beneficial for my mental health. I also found that keeping a written calendar with all my scheduled events, whether it be church, NFL games, movie nights, date nights, or coffee with friends, has helped me have something to look forward to each week.

I took a break from Reddit while on stims and ended up reading one of the 50 Shades books. It completely distracted me and I wasn’t turned on at all because I was so bloated from the medication.

I will be starting tomorrow and in anticipation, I have decided to knit hats for my doctors and nurses as a project. I find it a good way to keep my hands and mind busy since I can finish one in a few hours.

I enjoyed watching comedy TV shows while learning how to crochet from YouTube videos. Crocheting was beneficial for me as it required focus on counting stitches. I made several items for my future baby and myself using simple patterns.

I took long walks instead of my usual running routine to avoid any discomfort while stimming, and found it interesting to experience my usual running routes at a slower pace. I would listen to podcasts while walking 3, 5, or 6 miles, and enjoyed it. Winter walking can be great even in cold weather, just bundle up and go for it! I used to do it often when I lived in the north east.

I will be starting stimulations tomorrow and plan to enjoy watching Netflix, completing jigsaw puzzles, and quilting. Can’t wait!

I pass time by browsing Reddit to keep my mind busy, haha. I also keep myself occupied and prioritize spending time with my husband.

During my ER shift, I came across a post that led me to Disney Dreamlight Valley, a charming game available on various game consoles and PC. Despite not being a gamer, I found myself spending countless hours playing it.

I purchased ankle weights and went on numerous walks with them on my wrists. Afterwards, I went on many walks without the weights, just with my dog.

I have become a big fan of the Real Housewives series thanks to IVF. It’s the perfect way for me to disconnect and unwind. Bravo shows are the best!
