Dealing with Cerclage Failure Post IVF

I recently underwent IVF treatment and had a cerclage placed to support my pregnancy. Unfortunately, I experienced cerclage failure, which was devastating. I am struggling to cope with this unexpected turn of events and would appreciate any advice or support from others who may have gone through a similar situation. It’s a challenging time, and I could use some guidance on how to navigate this difficult experience. Thank you in advance.

I’m so sorry you’re in this club. I had a 20 week loss after our first IVF transfer, rescue cerclage failed the same way. My RE sent me to an MFM who does TACs and I got one placed before our next transfer. Carried that pregnancy to 37 weeks. The TAC recovery wasn’t fun but it held.

First of all, i’m so so sorry for your loss. I can relate to you as I went through the same thing at the end of may, and experienced PPROM and loss of my baby at 17 weeks. I can tell you that it still sucks every day but every day gets a little better. Its a loss that will stay with us for a lifetime.

There is a sub on here called Short Cervix Support that has alot of PPROM stories. Just from my research ive heard of alot of women that went through similar and many of them were able to carry their next pregnancy to term. The good news is that my next pregnancy will be highly monitored as i’ll be considered high risk. So that part does make me feel a bit better. I’m already planning for another transfer as that is the only thing that allows me to keep some hope alive and look forward to something.

I am so sorry for your loss. I can relate to you since I had the exact same issue. We had the same kind of cervical insufficiency loss at 22 weeks and lost our baby to PPROM. Our MFM told us that there was no way to know it the first time. And they said there will be a vaginal cerclage that will be placed within 12 weeks with next pregnancy with additional monitoring since I am now in the very high risk category.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had secondary infertility and had to do IVF for our second. In my case, they already knew I had cervical insufficiency as I had previously lost a pregnancy (not via IVF) at 21weeks even with an emergency cerclage. I carried my next pregnancy with a shirodkar cerclage to 37weeks and had my baby boy. Fast forward to IVF last year and my first transfer, got pregnant and had the McDonald’s stitch put in preventatively at 13-14weeks. I lost that pregnancy in March of this year at 21weeks again. I haven’t recovered, I never will.. it’s the hardest thing I’ve gone through especially after going through IVF. I do have a TAC now and just in the process of clearing CE before another transfer.
You should join the Abbyloopers group on facebook. It has lots of information about TAC. Wish I knew about that page after my first loss..
