Considering Donor Sperm: Looking for Guidance

Hey everyone, I’ve found myself contemplating the idea of using donor sperm to start a family, and it’s a decision that feels both overwhelming and hopeful. I’m hoping to connect with others who have been through a similar experience or have insights to share. What factors did you consider when choosing donor sperm? Any advice on navigating the emotional aspects of this process? I’d love to hear your perspectives and gain some support during this uncertain but exciting time. Thank you in advance for any guidance you can offer!

My wife and I decided to use a close friend from college as our known donor based on our doctor’s recommendation to take CoQ10 for improved sperm quality. We were able to create 6 embryos from my egg retrieval, while only producing 1 euploid embryo from my wife’s retrieval using stored sperm from our donor. Our doctor mentioned that sperm quality can vary between deposits, so it’s something to consider when using a known donor.

We utilized sperm from an anonymous donor for our IVF procedure. The sperm is placed in close proximity to the egg or directly injected during ICSI. There is no need to search for a new donor in this case!

I am perplexed, isn’t motility of 70%-90% considered impressive? Additionally, sperm concentration doesn’t seem to be very important.
