Big Mistake: Injected Progesterone in Oil Into My Hip Joint

So, I messed up big time… I accidentally injected progesterone in oil into my hip joint thinking I was doing it right. Now, I’m flustered and worried about what to do next. Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation or have any advice on how to handle this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you."

You’re okay, but choosing that location while tired is quite bold. I’ve mistakenly angled the needle towards my hip before, experiencing immense pressure and pain upon injection. However, hitting and injecting into a joint would be unmistakable and debilitating. Trust me, you would know immediately.

What do you believe caused your hip joint issue to arise?

I completely understand your stress about doing PIO for your upcoming FET. I’m worried about messing it up too. However, as someone who performs joint injections at work, I believe it’s highly unlikely that you injected into your hip joint. The tissues surrounding a joint cavity are very strong and it takes specific training to access the joint successfully. You would also experience immediate, dramatic pain if you had actually injected into the joint. From what I can see, the bandaid appears to be more around the upper/mid pelvis than the hip joint. I think you just irritated the soft tissues and poked a bad spot. Unless you develop a fever or signs of infection, the worst consequence would likely be extra soreness.

I find it hard to believe that the injection could have reached the hip joint unless you are very slim or using a long needle. It is typically quite painful to enter the joint space. I recommend consulting with a doctor to confirm.

My husband accidentally administered the PIO shot in the same spot after I received a positive result. I called the RN emergency line and they assured me that it was fine and the medication is still being absorbed. It’s important to stay calm, relax, and get some rest.

After injecting, my hip joint was very sore and kept me up all night. It was hard to walk because it felt frozen, but thankfully the pain passed in a day. I must have made a mistake that day! If you’re experiencing any symptoms, it’s likely that the progesterone is being absorbed properly into your body.

I am happy that I am going through a modified natural FET instead of having to deal with painful PIO injections as recommended by my doctor.

You’re okay, but injecting in that location was a bold move, especially when tired. I once angled the needle towards my hip, causing immense pain and pressure, but it eventually subsided. Trust me, if you hit a joint, you would definitely know because it would be debilitating.

What do you believe caused the issue in your hip joint?

I understand your concern about possibly making a mistake with the PIO injections for your upcoming FET. However, it’s highly unlikely that you actually injected into your hip joint, as the tissues surrounding a joint cavity are strong and a specific training is required to access the joint. The bandaid around the upper/mid pelvis, rather than the hip joint, also suggests that you probably just irritated the soft tissues. If you don’t experience a fever or signs of infection, the worst consequence should be extra soreness.

I doubt you were able to inject it into the hip joint unless you are very slender or have a needle longer than one inch, and precisely placed it in the inguinal crease or right into the SI joint. Entering the joint space is usually quite painful. I recommend checking with your doctor as people can often do strange things, but I am skeptical that you successfully injected it into the actual joint space.

TW success: My husband accidentally injected the PIO shot in the same spot after a positive result. I called the RN emergency line and they reassured me that it was okay because the PIO is still being absorbed. Don’t worry too much and make sure to rest.

After injecting, my hip joint was extremely sore and kept me awake all night. Walking was difficult because my hip felt frozen. The discomfort lasted a day but then disappeared. I must have made a mistake that day! Hopefully you didn’t experience any symptoms, but if the progesterone is going into your body, it’s working.

I am happy that I am doing a modified natural FET instead of taking PIO injections, thanks to my doctor’s suggestion.

It appears that you may be using the wrong needle for injection, as someone else also pointed out. Additionally, if you were to inject into the bone, it would not just be uncomfortable - you would be in severe pain.
