Dealing with Egg Retrieval Pain: What's Normal?

Just wanted to mention that experiencing zero to minimal pain after waking up from anesthesia is possible. In my experience, I felt some sharp pain on one side initially, but it subsided quickly. While I was still bloated, I wouldn’t classify it as painful. I didn’t need any pain medication and was able to resume normal activities. However, I did feel quite nauseous due to the anesthesia.

I haven’t had my egg retrieval yet (it’s scheduled for tomorrow), but as an RN, I would recommend going to the ER if you are still experiencing significant pain. OHSS is not related to the number of ovaries you have, but rather to estrogen levels and medication response. With 18 eggs retrieved, it is possible to develop OHSS. The symptoms you are experiencing align with OHSS. It is concerning that your clinic is not taking your concerns seriously. It’s important to prioritize your health and seek medical attention.

I recommend going to the emergency room if your clinic is not listening to you, as my experience with them was positive and they provided me with the necessary care and follow-up.

This is concerning. I agree with others suggesting you should visit the emergency room.

It is not typical. I visited the farmer’s market following my egg retrieval and did not experience much pain. The most discomfort was 3 days later, when I felt a bit sore and had to rest. The pain, at its worst, was around a 5 out of 10. It would be wise to seek medical attention at the emergency room.

I experienced the same symptoms with only 9 eggs retrieved from all 3 of my ERs. The pain in my tummy felt like knives when I moved. I also have adeno and suspect it may be a factor. Despite my swollen belly, with such a low egg count, OHSS was not a concern. It’s frustrating to see others recover quickly while I struggle to move 5 days later. It started immediately after my first ER, but took 1-2 days with the other two.

It’s not typical to experience pain during or after the procedure.
